Cambodia to mull over Thailand-proposed joint tourism initiative

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — Cambodia is expected to mull over the Thailand-proposed “Six Countries, One Destination” initiative, which aims to facilitate the cross-border travel among six regional countries.
Dusit Manapan, an adviser to Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, raised the proposal during a courtesy meeting with Cambodian Minister of Tourism Huot Hak in the capital Phnom Penh on Monday, said a Cambodian Ministry of Tourism’s statement issued on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Huot Hak informed the Thai side that he took note of the “Six Countries, One Destination” initiative and requested the Thai side to provide comprehensive concept note and related documents of this initiative through diplomatic channel, said the statement.
According to the statement, the minister has not yet confirmed Cambodia’s support for the initiative, as reported by some media outlets.
The Thailand-proposed initiative aims to enhance economic and tourism cooperation between Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam. ■
